The opulent McCallister home appears more impressive, capturing various memorable details and approximating the shape of the original house. This structure measures 32cm across and nearly 27cm in height which appears accurate beside minifigures, reminding me of The Simpsons House. Inevitably, this design is more realistic than the animated creation from 2014. LEGO Ideas sets have historically included printed elements rather than stickers, although the significant number of decorations here necessitates stickers. 37 stickers are therefore included between two sheets, featuring myriad details and references from Home Alone.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the movie but the house itself looks great. Good to see the 3043 Slope 45° double in white is used on the dormer roofs. Has been a while since an official LEGO set used this element to finish the top line of a roof.
The kitchen and basement
I think prioritising the height difference between Harry and Kevin, reflecting their different ages, would have been beneficial. The opulent McCallister household presents an enticing target for the Wet Bandits, named for Marv's tendency to flood burgled homes. Harry and Marv are therefore provided together and both minifigures look fantastic, wearing jackets and waistcoats with the correct colours. Harry's detailed waistcoat appears especially attractive, while his knitted cap appears realistic too.

Even the price isn't too unreasonable by today's Lego standards. The 476 page, perfect bound instruction manual is pretty standard fare for these sets. The first few pages go over the theme of the set and play features, introduce the designers, and then jumps into the building instructions. The front cover has a reproduction of Kevin’s battle plan, which also appears as a sticker. This would be my first new owner house project, then I would remove all the unusable raised basement height and use the bricks for a side extension kitchen and back utility room.
The parts and stickers
Here’s the completed build which was quite an experience! At almost 4,000 pieces you can be assured of a really involved build experience. Here’s Kevin and his mum, Kate, who famously left Kevin behind and only realised midway on the flight to Paris. Both minifigures are decent representations of their on-screen counterparts, relying on their outfits instead of face prints to bring them to life. Whereas thanksgiving is more about inviting all the relatives especially if you have a huge house to show off.

Other features include the fireplace, Christmas tree, a toy train, grandfather clock, dining table and record player. First of all, this would've looked soooo much better in Dark Red masonry bricks, especially with the contrasting white and black. Second, if you're gonna use Reddish Brown, why not all masonry bricks like the real house, instead of here and there between the normal bricks? Also, I don't like the brown tiles above the shutters and the roof should've been grey with snow accents.I was 100% sure this set was gonna be the best house in my village, but now it's just Meh.. The review comments on the number of minifigures several times indicating that the reviewer would have preferred more.
Unboxing the parts, instructions and sticker sheet
The record player turntable works well, although it’s spaced a bit too far back from the windows to really be seen when the outer walls are closed. Other bits of décor include the front door, “feather trap” fan, grandfather clock, and dining room table and chairs. The clock feels like it could be re-homed into almost any LEGO family setting. Note the uneaten plate of “highly nutritious microwavable macaroni and cheese” on the table, too. It’s standard practice for LEGO to often include an extra copy of pieces that are likely to go missing during construction.
‘Shut up’ basement scene
The dining room is decorated with a wreath and candles, but man, I hate those chairs. These chairs have an interesting build technique, but the execution is just awful. And here’s a zoomed out shot of the dining room, which also shows off the statuette, that revolves in sync with the Michael Jordan cutout train. Tucked in the corner of the dining room is the large fan, ready to blow a giant pile of feathers into intruders.

Her dark orange hair was previously exclusive to Harry Potter sets. All five minifigures are, unsurprisingly, exclusive to this set. These include Kevin's lesser-known siblings, Megan, Linnie and Jeff. The stickered portrait is definitely a superb addition, although I think more minifigures should have been included. Even so, Megan, Linnie and Jeff were probably superfluous. Alongside ornaments and toys scattered around the Christmas tree, Home Alone also appears! However, my favourite feature is easily the rotating train, which supports a life-size Michael Jordan standee.
Upon moving back to Malaysia after completing my degree, I joined several local Lego groups on Facebook. This led to various meet-ups in which I slowly got to know the local community better. I started posting pictures of my vignettes online, and trouble started when I posted the wedding one. I got a few positive comments on the picture itself, but later on received a PM from the owners of the group telling me that there have been complaints and I should delete my post. I stood my ground, argued that people were actually supportive of the post and I should not have to remove it because a random person was uncomfortable. This didn’t work, so in the end I left the group rather than try to deal with the obvious homophobia.
Buzz’s bedroom is also awash in what I assume are Home Alone 2 Easter eggs, including a heart-in-a-safe and a stickered toy catalog for Duncan’s Toy Chest. There’s also a super-hero poster on the door For Oleksii Storozhuk no.1 – that’s got to mean something, too, right? Also in the room are Buzz’s BB-gun and a framed picture of his girlfriend, a joke that really hasn’t aged well.
